Making E-Learning More Accessible for a Global Audience

In response to increasing demand for translated learning across our international membership, I identified an opportunity to extend the capabilities of the Articulate Storyline player. Using AI-assisted development, I wrote custom JavaScript code that transformed the built-in glossary feature into a synchronized transcript panel compatible with browser translation tools, enabling a multilingual learning experience at virtually no additional cost to the organization.

Impact

52% of evaluation respondents reported using the translation feature. Of those learners, 97% rated the quality of the translation as Good or Excellent.

Design Insight

Innovation doesn't always require new platforms or expensive software. By leveraging AI to explore, prototype, and implement practical solutions, existing tools can often be extended in ways that improve accessibility and the overall learner experience.

Teaching Clinical Skills Through Interactive Simulation

While developing a module on movement disorder assessment, I collaborated with subject matter experts to create an experience that moved beyond recall-based multiple-choice questions. I designed a simulation in Articulate Storyline to reflect real-world clinical decision-making, allowing learners to observe and evaluate a patient using the same assessment tool as expert physicians. Learners then compare their findings with expert evaluations, encouraging reflection, clinical reasoning, and self-assessment.

Learning becomes more meaningful when it requires the same observation and judgment as real-world practice. Authentic assessment helps bridge the gap between knowing what to do and applying it.

Transforming Learning Resources into a Guided Learning Journey

Learner feedback and stakeholder input revealed a need for clearer learning pathways and a more consistent approach to curriculum development. Working with subject matter experts and internal stakeholders, I redesigned our organization’s curriculum framework, established a repeatable development process, and optimized delivery through the LMS. The new framework transformed a collection of individual learning resources into a cohesive learning journey organized into structured tracks and shorter, focused modules, reinforced by frequent knowledge checks and supplemental resources.

Reimagining Text-Based Sports Simulation as an Interactive Broadcast

Hoops Dynasty, a browser-based college basketball simulation from WhatIfSports, presents simulated college basketball games through scrolling play-by-play text (“Player misses the shot,” “Player steals the ball”), leaving users to visualize the game action in their minds. The project began with a simple question: What if you could watch these games unfold instead of reading them? I had no roadmap and no idea how far the concept could evolve. Using AI-assisted development, I experimented, iterated, and kept pushing the concept further until it became an immersive, fully interactive sports broadcast featuring animated gameplay, a 3D court visualization, and advanced statistical analysis.
